About Us

Mocatta has been at the forefront of world markets with innovative new products and solutions that have become industry standards. Established in 1671, Mocatta was the world’s earliest bullion broker and by 1774 was handling three-quarters of the world’s entire gold production. In 1897, Mocatta chaired the first London Silver Fixing and ScotiaMocatta, as it became following acquisition by The Bank of Nova Scotia in December 1997, continues to chair the Fixing today. ScotiaMocatta is a member of the London Gold Fixing and was the first non-British bank to be Chairman of the London Gold Fixing in 2004. In addition, ScotiaMocatta held the Chairmanship of The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) between 2002 and 2006 and continues to be represented at a senior level. The LBMA is the trade association that coordinates activities in the London bullion market, including interaction with its regulators.

ScotiaMocatta serves a widely diverse clientele of producers and consumers of bullion, including mining companies, smelters, refiners, manufacturers, fabricators, central banks, financial institutions, investment funds, jewelry manufacturers, and merchants/traders. Trading and bullion banking services include spot, long- and short-dated forward transactions, options and derivatives on gold, silver, platinum and palladium as well as lending facilities including loans, leases and consignment of metals worldwide.

Scotiabank is one of North America's leading financial institutions and the most international of Canada's major banks, with operations in more than 50 countries. The Scotiabank Group's global corporate and investment banking operations provide specialised solutions for corporate, institutional and government bodies and, through ScotiaMocatta, to the precious metals industries.
