How to Buy/Sell Precious Metals

Precious metals can be ordered through specialized Scotiabank branches in Mexico. Precious metals products can be used as a collector's item, as a gift or simply for the pleasure of owning them.

Instructions for how to buy or sell precious metals:

  1. Locate your nearest Scotiabank specialized branch in Mexico. Product can be ordered only through any specialized branches (please note, delivery times to branches can vary depending on location).

  2. Buying Precious Metals

    Required Documentation
    Clients who wish to purchase precious metals at the specialized branches must show the following documentation:
     
    Amounts up to USD 500 or equivalent in local currency.
    Scotiabank Clients
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    • Scotiabank account  number
    Non-Scotiabank Clients
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    Amounts USD 3,000 or equivalent in local currency.
    Scotiabank Clients Only*
    Individuals
    • Proof of address
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    Companies
    • Letterhead with company name duly signed by legal representative
    • Official ID (only IFE or passport) from person conducting the transaction

    Additional Requirements
    Scotiabank clients and Non-Scotiabank clients who wish to acquire precious metals at one of the specialized branches must provide Scotiabank with at least 24 hours of advance notice.
     
  3. Payments and Delivery:

    A) Payment can be made by cash (up to USD 3,000 or equivalent in local currency) with delivery same day to the branch. Clients must provide the following required documentation:
    Individual
    • Proof of Full name
    • Nationality
    • Date of birth
    • Proof of address
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    • Ocupation Information
    Companies
    • Company name proof
    • Mexican Tax ID and FEA
    • Nationality
    • Proof of address
    • Company’s Core Business
    • Documentation for the person conducting the transaction on behalf of the Company (Refer to "Individual" requirements above)
    B) Credit card Payment (cash disposal charge of 9%) with same day delivery to the branch.
     
    C) ScotiaCard, with same day delivery to the branch.
     
    D) Funds transfer subject to the following:
     
    Funds transfer of USD 1,000 to 2,999 or equivalent in local currency:
    Individual
    • Proof of Full name
    • Nationality
    • Date of birth
    • Proof of address
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    • Occupation Information
    Companies
    • Company name proof
    • Mexican Tax ID and FEA
    • Nationality
    • Proof of address
    • Documentation for the person conducting the transaction on behalf of the Company (Refer to "Individual" requirements above)
    Funds transfer of USD 3,000 to 4,999 or equivalent in local currency:
    Individual
    • Proof of Full name
    • Nationality
    • Date of birth
    • Proof of address
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    • Ocupation Information
    Companies
    • Company name proof
    • Mexican Tax ID and FEA
    • Nationality
    • Proof of address
    • Company’s Core Business
    • Documentation for the person conducting the transaction on behalf of the Company (Refer to "Individual" requirements above)
    Funds transfer of USD 5,000 and over or equivalent in local currency:
    Individual
    • Current official provisions will apply
    Companies
    • Current official provisions will apply
    Same day delivery to the branch with Scotiabank check issued by the buyer
    24 hours delivery to the branch with check or transfer from another Mexican bank issued by the buyer  

  4. Selling Precious Metals

    Required Documentation
    Clients who wish to sell precious metals at the specialized branches must show the following documentation:
     
    Amounts up to USD 500 or equivalent in local currency:
    Scotiabank Clients
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    • Scotiabank account  number (Only clients)
    Non-Scotiabank Clients
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    Amounts up to USD 3,000 or equivalent in local currency:
    Scotiabank Clients Only
    Individuals
    • Proof of address
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
     Companies
    • Letterhead with company name duly signed by legal representative
    • Official ID (only IFE or passport) from person conducting the transaction

  5. How to become a Scotiabank customer?

    If you would like to open a Scotiabank account , please visit any of our branches in Mexico, and take the following documents with you:
     
    Individuals
    • Proof of address
    • Official ID ( only IFE or passport)
    Companies
    • Letterhead with company name duly signed by legal representative
    • Official ID (only IFE or passport) from person conducting the transaction
